Background
On 19 September 2023, the Secretary of State for the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) announced the government's proposals to handle our financial and governance problems.
The proposals included:
- the appointment of commissioners who are responsible for governance, scrutiny of strategic decision making, finance, and senior appointments
- a local inquiry to investigate the cause of the issues we face

More details of the proposed intervention are in a letter to the Chief Executive of °ÄÃÅÆÆÂëÍø stating that we had failed to comply with our Best Value duty.

The government announced the intervention and our commissioners on 5 October 2023.
